new project w/ Blackwatch Studios

details to be worked out, but looks like I'll be working with another group of creatives in a couple weeks. I'll be shooting for a couple days with the kids from Blackwatch Studios in Norman and some others from Tulsa.

in the several conversations I've had with the producer, they're looking to develop something along the lines of 'a day in the life of an indie band traveling through the mid-west.' not sure who the first band is, but it sounds interesting - I'm a sucker for creative group projects.

maybe something along this idea -

another interview w/ Wayne Coyne

Wayne Coyne stopped by the OPUBCO studios the other day for another interview w/ The Oklahoman's Gene Triplett. I'm pretty sure the interview was part of a huge plug for the Flaming Lips show/party for New Years Eve.

We tend to try and pull off something interesting in production land when Wayne stops by. The last big interview we had with the Flaming Lips front man was in October 2007. We shot that interview with 3 cameras (2 different video codecs and sizes too - boo) and edited everything in post. For this interview, we set up the studio with our 3 studio cameras and added a 4th on a jib.

I think the whole thing, though a tad long, turned out pretty well. 30 seconds into the actual interview, I realized that I'd set my close up cameras on the wrong axis to each other, but didn't really freak out about it. Just can't let it happen again. I directed the cameras for most of the interview, but I had to take off for the last 5 mins to leave for another shoot.

whoppervirgins.com - not porn

Are you kidding me? This is great - whoppervirgins.com.

These guys traveled to 3 remote parts of the world to try and accomplish an unbiased taste test between the McDonalds Big Mac and the Burger King Whopper. Favorite part has to be the custom made broiler made for the adventure.

Christmas Eve

Today is Christmas Eve. My boss let me off early today and I finished up the little shopping I had to do. Now I'm finishing up presents and waiting to head over to my parent's house for mom's side of Christmas.

fifty people, one question

Found something else on vimeo.com/hd.

the guys at Fifty People, One Question are doing some cool work and cranking out some emotional pieces. They had an idea to go somewhere, ask 50 people one question and film their response. Cool experiment.

Fort Sill soldiers heading home for holidays

my early AM project at the airport today

from NewsOK-
About 420 solders from Fort Sill are scheduled to leave from Will Rogers World Airport today for two weeks of holiday leave. Soldiers also are departing from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

About 2,700 soldiers from Fort Sill’s 434th Field Artillery Brigade are participating in the annual event, commonly known as ‘exodus’ or winter block leave, fort spokeswoman Emily Kelley said.

too cold to be outside, let alone sleep there.

Some friends of mine from North Church are doing a project with the homeless in OKC over the next couple days. Rodney Fouts decided to become homeless for 3 days in order to get a better understanding of what life is like for the homeless in Oklahoma City.

The temperature last night was in the teens and I was told the City Rescue Mission was expecting 200-300 more people than usual to be using their facilities. I spent maybe 30 minutes in the cold shooting video footage from the project and even with my layer upon layer of clothing, I couldn't feel my fingers and my face went numb. I can't imagine not having a place to sleep at night, especially in these conditions.

Kudos to those who are working with the homeless. Send them money.

do they train the secret service for that?

from BBC news

Around the Arab world, if you want to escalate a situation, by saying for example "I'm going to thump you", add the words "with a shoe" and you're adding serious insult to the threat of possible injury.

It's that cultural significance that has added real sting to the assault by an Iraqi journalist against US President George W Bush at a Baghdad news conference.

from nytimes.com
Hitting someone with a shoe is a strong insult in Iraq. It means the person is as low as the dirt underneath the sole of a shoe, and the actions of Muntader al-Zaidi, a correspondent for an independent Iraqi television station, were condemned by Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, the Iraqi government and other reporters at the news conference. Mr. Bush was unhurt and made a joke afterward, but the shoes have overshadowed other news coverage of the trip, including an attempt to showcase the new security agreement.

another post helium night - The Uglysuit

2:35 am 2:52 am and I'm still capturing some of the footage from tonight. Unfortunately ALL the footage I shot during the David Condos performance 2-3 weeks ago at the helium project was lost, so you can understand why I'm staring at my MBP wanting to make sure all my footage is captured. DVCPRO HD 1080p sure does burn through hard drive space.

before bed, 2 stills from what I shot tonight.

more editing to come and external hard drives to buy.

more helium love

from oklahomarock.com/blog

getting some more love online for the helium project. thx to the kids over at oklahomarock.com. the last show of this season is this thursday night w/ The Uglysuit.

nytimes.com

hold on to your scientology, tom cruise visits the kids at nytimes.com.

The more time I spend on nytimes.com, the more I fall in love with it. I caught this piece Tom Cruise last week and then I run across a link to another set of videos nytimes.com is cranking out on nytimes.com/conversations.

one thing though - I really wish they'd make the embed code available for their videos. you can find them on their youtube page, but the quality is terrible.
